Domestic work in Zimbabwe is a highly feminized sector and is generally perceived as an extension of woman’s unpaid household work. It is considered to be unskilled work not requiring any specialized skillset or training. These assumptions have typified this sector not only by low wages, but also promulgated domestic work as a profession with low dignity and respect, further stigmatizing the women who enter this sector as workers
Our training programmes contribute towards promoting domestic work as decent work and the recognition of the rights of domestic workers as ‘Workers’. This will facilitate decent work, better wages, and better working and living conditions for domestic workers. The professionalization of domestic workers will offer some degree of dignity and respect of domestic workers by employers and the community. All this we believe is possible with the right training
